The Health Initiative started out of a conviction to see holistic healing in our communities. Not only do we want to meet the spiritual needs of the community, we want to meet the physical needs as well. We found that as we got around tables with our community, with a focus on good food and relationships, healing began to occur. Often communities that have been affected by poverty are located in areas called food deserts, this simply means that healthy food choices are not accessed easily. The health initiative focuses on showing women and men in the community their worth and value through good food and cultivating healthy habits.
At the health initiative we teach health education, cooking skills, and maintain garden beds which produce fresh vegetables. Volunteers play a vital role in furthering our mission of ushering in worth and belonging through increasing health education by engaging in group conversation and teaching health related lessons.
